Maik Hamjediers is a Research Fellow at the European University Institute (EUI) within the Department of Political and Social Sciences. His work focuses on social stratification, gender inequalities in the labor market and domestic sphere, and empirical social research methodologies.

Maik investigates barriers to equitable workforce participation, emphasizing cultural gender expectations and their intersection with other social stratification factors. His recent research explores occupational segregation through comparative analysis across countries and time periods, as well as segregation linked to nativity status. He has extensive experience in teaching quantitative research methods, including undergraduate statistics lectures and method seminars.
His primary research output includes a 2024 study on gendered occupational inequality in access to flexible working-time arrangements. This work contributes to understanding how structural labor market and domestic factors perpetuate inequities in workforce participation.
