Maia McAleavey is an Associate Professor and Director of the English Literature Core at Boston College, located in Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. Her academic work focuses on 19th-century British literature, particularly the novel’s form and cultural context. She holds a B.A. from Stanford University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
Her research explores narrative structures, genre theory, and the interplay between individual and collective identity in Victorian fiction. Key projects include The Chronicle and the Narrative of the Group (current book project) and The Bigamy Plot (Cambridge University Press, 2015). Recent publications include articles on Victorian chronicles and Charlotte M. Yonge’s contributions to realism.
Her book project redefines the Victorian 'chronicle' genre, analyzing its role in mediating individual vs. group dynamics. McAleavey’s work bridges formal analysis with cultural history, emphasizing how narrative forms reflect societal tensions.
