Mahruq Fatima Khan is a Visiting Teaching Associate Professor in the Department of Gender and Women's Studies and a Teaching Associate Professor at the Center for the Study of Global Gender Equity at the University of Illinois. Her work bridges interdisciplinary research on identity, culture, and power structures within Muslim American and South Asian communities.
Her research explores:
- Gender and Queer Studies: Examining LGBTQ+ identities in Islamic contexts and feminist frameworks.
- Muslim American Experiences: Analyzing cultural expression, youth identity, and societal integration.
- South Asian Diasporas: Investigating power dynamics, self-representation, and community formation.
Khan's publications (2007–2011) focus on themes of identity affirmation, sociopolitical movements, and cross-cultural symbolism, predominantly through journal articles and book chapters. Her work critically engages with representations of Muslims in Western societies and the intersection of religion, gender, and ethnicity.
