Magnus Ullén is a Professor of English at Stockholm University, affiliated with the Department of English and the Network Language and Power research group. He holds a PhD from Uppsala University (2001) and became a docent (associate professor) in Comparative Literature at Stockholm University in 2009. Previously, he served as Professor of English at Østfold University College (Norway) and Karlstad University before joining Stockholm University’s English Department in 2018.
His research bridges rhetoric and literary studies, focusing on political correctness, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and the intersection of literature with institutional practices. Key works include The Half-Vanished Structure: Hawthorne’s Allegorical Dialectics (2004) and Bara för dig: pornografi, konsumtion, berättande (2009). Current projects examine the conceptual history of political correctness, analyzing its emergence through digital corpus linguistics and rhetorical frameworks.
Ullén’s publications span monographs, edited volumes, and peer-reviewed articles in journals like Nordic Journal of English Studies and ESQ. His work critiques postcritical theory, explores fascist ideologies in literature, and interrogates the role of authorship in textual interpretation.
