Dr. Maggie Gray is a Senior Lecturer in Critical and Historical Studies (Illustration and Animation) at Kingston University’s Kingston School of Art. She specializes in comics, cartooning, and visual narrative, with research focusing on the historical development of British comics, their relationship to cultural resistance, and the material and performative aspects of comics as designed objects. Her work integrates Marxist aesthetics, social history, and art theory.

Research Interests: Maggie explores how comics intersect with performance, labour, and dissent. Her book Alan Moore, Out from the Underground examines Moore’s transdisciplinary practice. She co-runs the Kingston School of Art Comic Club and actively contributes to Comics Studies through roles in the Comics Forum, Studies in Comics editorial board, and Comics & Performance Network.
