Magdalena Wojcieszak is a Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of California, Davis, with additional affiliations as an Associate Researcher at the Center for Excellence in Social Science at the University of Warsaw, where she leads the ERC Consolidator Grant project NEWSUSE. She is also an Affiliate Faculty member in the Designated Emphasis in Computational Social Science and a Member of the Graduate Group in Computer Science at UC Davis. Her work bridges communication, political science, and computational methods.
Her research focuses on how individuals select political information in digital environments and the consequences of these choices on polarization, extremism, and misperceptions. She investigates the impact of mass and digital media on intergroup attitudes and develops pro-social interventions targeting both users and platform algorithms. Her current projects include algorithmic audits of YouTube content and designing tools to incentivize exposure to quality news.
The 15 most recent articles reflect a strong trend in computational social science, selective exposure, political polarization, and misinformation. They span interdisciplinary domains including communication, political science, psychology, and computer science, with a consistent emphasis on experimental and data-driven methodologies. Her work frequently addresses real-world challenges in democratic discourse and media ecosystems.
