Magdalena Hawrysz

Magdalena Hawrysz is a Professor at the University of Zielona Góra, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and the Department of Linguistics. She serves as head of the Department of Linguistics and is a member of the Polish Linguistic Society, the Society of Polish Language Enthusiasts, and the Commission on the History of Language of the Committee on Linguistics of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She also acts as an expert for the Polish Accreditation Committee.

Education:

• Graduate of Polish Studies at the University of Wrocław
• Doctoral dissertation on the language of municipal communities in Opole (17th–18th centuries) defended at the University of Wrocław
• Habilitation monograph on Marcin Czechowic's polemical work via linguistic genology completed at the University of Silesia in Katowice
• Postgraduate studies in teaching Polish as a foreign language at Adam Mickiewicz University

Her research spans historical linguistics, focusing on Middle Polish language usage across diverse ethnic, territorial, and social communities. She also explores contemporary artistic and media language, integrating textology, linguistic genre theory, stylistics, cultural linguistics, and discourse theory. Her work emphasizes rhetoric and public linguistic behaviors.

Magdalena organizes academic initiatives such as the cyclical conference "Language – Custom – Community" with the University of Łódź and co-edits the publication series "Zielonogórskie Seminaria Linguisticzne." She leads graduate seminars and teaches rhetoric, eristics, and linguistics, while popularizing knowledge through events like the Rhetorical Feast for journalism students and legal rhetorical competitions.
