Magdalena Elmersjö is an Associate Professor and Lecturer at the Department of Social Sciences, Södertörn University. Her research focuses on elderly care, examining the everyday work conditions of care staff and social workers, as well as the life situations of older people with or without care needs.
Research Interests: Magdalena investigates moral stress and moral agency in Swedish elderly care systems. Her work explores how ethical dilemmas and challenging working conditions impact care quality and staff well-being. She employs participatory action research (PAR) methodologies and collaborates with three municipalities (Kalmar, Helsingborg, Vänersborg) and educational institutions.
Projects:
- Co-led the Forte-funded Moral Stress and Moral Agency in Swedish Elderly Care project (2021-2024)
- Principal investigator for the 2024 Social Work with the Elderly follow-up research in Skärholmen
Collaborations: Works with research teams at Lund University (Sara Hultqvist) and University of Gothenburg (Katarina Hollertz). Partners include trade unions, pensioner organizations, and healthcare education providers.
