Magdalena Candioti

Magdalena Candioti is a Professor and researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICET) of Argentina, affiliated with the Instituto de Historia Argentina y Americana Dr. Emilio Ravignani at the University of Buenos Aires within the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters.

Her research specializes in the historical processes of erosion, delegitimization, and abolition of slavery in the Rio de la Plata region during the 19th century, with particular focus on enslaved individuals' freedom-seeking trajectories and contemporary public/expert debates on abolition. This work situates within broader frameworks of social history, Latin American historical studies, and critical examinations of institutional power structures during post-colonial transitions.

As a CONICET researcher, she contributes to Argentina's national scientific infrastructure while maintaining institutional ties to the University of Buenos Aires' humanities faculty. Her scholarship represents significant contributions to understanding slavery's complex dissolution in Southern Cone societies through microhistorical approaches to marginalized voices.
