Magda Teter

Magda Teter is a Professor of History and the Shvidler Chair in Judaic Studies at Fordham University. She is a leading scholar in Jewish history, legal history, and religious studies, with a focus on medieval and early modern Europe, antisemitism, and racism.

• Education: Ph.D., M.Phil., and M.A. from Columbia University; M.A. from the Institute of Oriental Studies, University of Warsaw.

Her research investigates the intersections of religion, law, and society, particularly in Catholic Poland and broader European contexts. Key themes include blood libel accusations, Christian supremacy, censorship, and the construction of citizenship and belonging.

Teter's scholarly achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards such as the National Jewish Book Award, the George L. Mosse Prize, and the Bainton Prize. She has held fellowships at institutions like the Radcliffe Institute and the New York Public Library's Cullman Center.
