Professor Maeve Lohan is a Professor of Marine Chemistry at the University of Southampton, specializing in biogeochemical processes in marine systems. She leads research on trace metal cycling, isotope fractionation, and oceanographic dynamics, particularly in the Arctic, Southern Ocean, and Atlantic regions. Her work integrates field studies, laboratory analysis, and modeling to address questions about climate interactions and nutrient availability.
Research interests include iron and manganese dynamics, hydrothermal influences on ocean chemistry, and the impacts of glacial retreat on marine ecosystems. She collaborates on large-scale projects like GEOTRACES and contributes to initiatives such as the Radium in Changing Environments and Iron-Man studies. Current supervision includes PhD candidates focusing on Arctic diazotrophs and Atlantic trace metal distributions.
Publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to understanding ocean biogeochemistry, with recent work focusing on seasonal variations in metal distributions and isotope behavior in hydrothermal systems. Projects often involve international partnerships and cutting-edge analytical techniques.
