Maeve Cooke is a Full Professor in the School of Philosophy at University College Dublin (UCD). She holds roles including Co-ordinator of the School’s Invited Speaker Seminars and has served as Head of School multiple times. Her academic career spans over three decades, with visiting positions at institutions like Yale University and the University of California, Berkeley. She earned her BA and MA from UCD and a PhD from the University of Konstanz.
Research interests focus on critical social theory, political philosophy, and the ethical dimensions of contemporary issues like ecological disaster and religious pluralism. Key themes include autonomy, authority, and the Anthropocene. Cooke has secured significant grants, including funding for projects on political violence, secular democracy, and environmental ethics. She is an elected member of the Royal Irish Academy and a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship.
Her teaching spans modules like Critical Theory, Ethics, and Philosophy of Place. Awards include the Government of Ireland Senior Fellowship and multiple Humboldt Foundation grants. Cooke’s work bridges philosophy and social critique, addressing global challenges through interdisciplinary lenses.
