Maeve Brennan is an artist and filmmaker based in London, currently serving as an Associate Lecturer on the MA Photography program at the Royal College of Art (RCA). She also teaches at Goldsmiths, University of London, and has held roles at Kingston University, UCL, Liverpool John Moores University, and Newcastle University. Her practice explores political and historical resonances of material and place through moving image, installation, sculpture, and printed matter. Brennan’s work often examines repair and maintenance in extractive contexts, engaging with figures like conservators and archaeologists.
She holds notable fellowships, including the Stanley Picker Fine Art Fellowship (2019–22) and a Sainsbury Scholarship at the British School at Rome (2023). Her recent solo exhibitions include shows at VISUAL Carlow (2023), Stanley Picker Gallery (2022), and Kunsthaus Bregenz (2018). Her films have screened globally at venues like Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt and Sheffield Doc Fest.
Brennan is currently shortlisted for the Jarman Award 2024 and resides at Somerset House Studios. Her accolades include the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Award (2021) and grants from the Arts Council England. Her research and artistic output reflects a commitment to uncovering layered histories and unseen structures in cultural and environmental contexts.
