Madicken Munk serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering within Oregon State University's College of Engineering, a position she has held since 2024. An alumna of OSU, she earned her BS in Nuclear Engineering here in 2011 before returning as faculty.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Nuclear Engineering, University of California, Berkeley (2017)
- MS in Nuclear Engineering, University of California, Berkeley (2013)
- BS in Nuclear Engineering, Oregon State University (2011)
Dr. Munk's research integrates reactor physics, radiation transport, and scientific computing through advanced methodologies including Monte Carlo simulations, hybrid neutral particle techniques, and data visualization. Her work extends into energy policy analysis, fuel cycle modeling, and advocacy for open science practices to enhance computational accessibility across disciplines.
Prior to her OSU appointment, she led the Advanced Reactors and Fuel Cycles group at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2021-2024) and developed multidimensional data analysis tools as a Postdoctoral Researcher at UIUC's National Center for Supercomputing Applications. She actively contributes to the SciPy and Software Carpentries communities, focusing on democratizing computational skills for diverse user levels.
