Madeline Moran is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at Lehman College, City University of New York. She joined Lehman as an instructor when the college gained independence and advanced through academic ranks to full professor. Prior faculty appointments include New York University, Fordham University, and Hunter College. Her departmental leadership roles encompass chairperson and advisor to Alpha Kappa Delta (the sociology honor society), while college-level service includes Coordinator of Women's Studies and Co-Director of Graduate Studies.
Her research centers on criminology and minority populations, extending to international adoption systems and forced child migration. Current work involves the seventh article in a longitudinal series examining rehoming practices and repatriation to birth countries, following recent publications analyzing U.S. adoption exports and historical social movements in forced child migration across the United States and British Empire. These studies consistently address social justice implications for adoptees and birth parents.
Professor Moran teaches SOC 166 (Introduction to Sociology), Juvenile Justice, and U.S. Adoption Policy, having transitioned from long-term instruction in research methods and criminology. She maintains an active advising role with Alpha Kappa Delta from her office in Carman Hall, Room B60, and is contactable via madeline.moran@lehman.cuny.edu.
