Madelaine Cahuas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography, Environment & Society at the University of Minnesota. She is a critical human geographer and Latina feminist urban scholar who examines how racialized migrant communities, particularly Black, Brown, and Indigenous Latinx women and queer/non-binary individuals, organize for social justice and reshape urban geographies.

Her research integrates Latinx urban politics, decolonial theory, and feminist methodologies to address issues of racial capitalism, settler colonialism, and community-led activism. She emphasizes qualitative approaches and testimonio to center marginalized voices in urban studies.
Dr. Cahuas is committed to community-engaged scholarship and serves as Program Director for the Latinx Geographies Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers. She also contributes to the editorial collective of ACME: An International Journal of Critical Geographies.
- SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship (2014-2017)
She teaches courses on urbanization, environmental justice, gender and race in urban contexts, and health inequities in North American cities. Her collaborative projects include studies on neighborhood revitalization impacts in Toronto’s Regent Park and health equity initiatives in Hamilton.
