Maciej Lewenstein heads the Quantum Optics Theory group at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) in Barcelona. Awarded the 2013 Gutenberg Research Award, his interdisciplinary research spans quantum optics, cold gases, quantum information, and ultra-intense laser fields.
His groundbreaking work includes high-order harmonics generation, Bose-Einstein condensates, and quantum computing implementations. He creatively combines quantum physics subfields to advance quantum simulation techniques applicable to condensed matter and high-energy physics.
Honors include APS Fellowship, European Academy of Sciences membership, Humboldt Research Award (2007), and ERC Advanced Grant (2008). His highly cited publications demonstrate significant impact across multiple physics disciplines.
