Dr. Maciej Dawczyk serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medieval History at the Faculty of Philosophy and History, University of Lodz. His academic career focuses on early medieval European history with particular expertise in Italian medieval studies. He maintains regular office hours on Wednesdays from 14:00-15:30 at Harcmistrza Aleksandra Kamińskiego 27a, room 20, in Łódź.
Dr. Dawczyk's primary research interests center on early medieval Italy, with special emphasis on Lombard-Byzantine relations, the Exarchate of Ravenna, and papal history. His scholarly work also explores medieval Christian anti-Islamic polemics, particularly through the figure of Riccoldo da Monte di Croce. His research demonstrates interdisciplinary connections between political history, religious studies, and cultural interactions during the early medieval period.
His most significant publication is the 2024 monograph Lombard-Byzantine political relations from the beginning of the 6th century to the fall of the Exarchate of Ravenna. His recent scholarly output shows a consistent focus on Lombard history, Byzantine-Italian relations, and medieval Christian-Muslim interactions, with publications appearing in journals such as Przegląd Nauk Historycznych, Politeja, and Studia Ceranea.
