Maartje Brouwer

Maartje Brouwer is a Senior Research Assistant and Molecular Biology Researcher at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), supporting interdisciplinary projects within the Department of Microbiology & Biogeochemistry. Her work bridges marine and biomedical sciences.

Her research interests focus on molecular biology, marine molecular ecology, microbiology, and biochemistry, aligning with the department's emphasis on microbial and biogeochemical processes in marine environments.

Prior to joining NIOZ in 2016, she held roles as a Mad Scientist (instructor) at Mad Science Nederland (2014-2016) and as a Junior Scientific Researcher at the Netherlands Forensic Institute (2011-2013). She earned dual M.Sc. degrees in Forensic Science and Biomedical Sciences (2011), preceded by a B.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences (2006).
