Queen’s University Belfastمعرفی
Dr. Maarten Van Walstijn is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Queen's University Belfast. His research focuses on virtual-acoustic instruments, numerical methods for musical instrument simulation, and real-time sensing technologies. He is actively involved in interdisciplinary projects, including the SARC (Sonic Arts Research Centre) and EPIC (Energy, Power, Intelligent Systems and Control) groups. Dr. Van Walstijn supervises PhD students in areas such as sensor-based control of virtual instruments and room acoustics simulation.
Research interests include numerical methods for musical instrument emulation, experimental characterization of instruments, and spatial audio. His work spans theoretical and applied projects, such as the EU-funded Virtual Reality Audio for Cyber Environments and collaborations with industry partners like George Lowden Guitars.
Dr. Van Walstijn has received several awards, including the 4th prize in best paper at DAFx-16 and the Best Poster Award at NIME 2017. His publications emphasize energy-stable simulation techniques, sensor interfaces, and interdisciplinary applications in virtual reality and music technology. Current and former students have pursued roles in academia and industry, including positions at Apple and the University of Performing Arts Vienna.
