Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Researchمعرفی
Maarten Boersma is Professor of Experimental Coastal Ecology at the University of Bremen and Interim Director of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research. With a PhD from the University of Amsterdam, his career includes positions at Max Planck Institute for Limnology, GKSS Research Center, and Christian Albrecht University.
His research focuses on aquatic ecology, particularly plankton dynamics, ecological stoichiometry, and impacts of climate change on marine communities. Current investigations examine ocean alkalinity enhancement effects, marine heatwave impacts on zooplankton, and coastal ecosystem responses to environmental stressors.
His publications demonstrate consistent focus on plankton responses to environmental change, including nutrient-temperature interactions, community resilience to disturbances, and coastal ecosystem dynamics. As steering committee member for BIOACID and current projects, he investigates carbon dioxide removal strategies and ecological impacts of climate interventions.
- Associate Editor for Limnology and Oceanography
- Former Editor-in-Chief of Helgoland Marine Research
He teaches courses in Experimental Design, Trophodynamic Interactions, and Plankton Ecology. Research projects include studies on underwater noise effects, Arctic coastal erosion impacts, and alkalinity enhancement funded by German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
