Professor MG Karels serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Rhodes University, where she is actively involved in the management, administration, and leadership of the Law Faculty. She also participates in central university governance. Her teaching focuses on public law, particularly criminal procedure and the law of evidence. She holds the academic rank of Professor and is an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
Her research interests encompass child justice and the scholarship of teaching and learning. She maintains active engagement with legal education and institutional leadership, contributing to both academic and administrative spheres within the university.
