MARIA LOPEZ MEDEL

María López Medel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Alicante. She holds a PhD in Translation Studies and belongs to the INCOGNITO research group, focusing on feminist translation, gender studies, and non-sexist language. Her roles include Master's thesis tutoring, academic mobility coordination, and membership in evaluation boards. She teaches courses on legal translation, terminology, and international organization translation.

Her research emphasizes gender equity in translation, collaborating with EU institutions and international projects. Key contributions include analyzing gender-neutral guidelines in EU documentation and investigating biases in professional terminology. She has presented at conferences in Lituania, China, Portugal, and Peru, and coordinates multidisciplinary teams addressing gender bias in translation.

She is a registered expert in gender studies with the European Commission and partners with organizations like AIETI and ESTIDIA. Her practical work includes over 20 book translations, EU legal translation contracts, and editorial leadership roles. She also leads public outreach initiatives, such as FECYT-funded science communication events.
