MARIA DOLORES GARZA GIL

MARIA DOLORES GARZA GIL serves as a full-time Professor in the Department of Applied Economics at the Faculty of Economic and Business Sciences, University of Vigo, Spain. She is affiliated with the interuniversity research center Economics and Business Administration for Society and the HI8 ERENEA research group focused on Natural and Environmental Resources Economics.

Her academic foundation includes a Doctorate from the University of Vigo (1996) with the thesis Optimal management of multi-fleet fisheries: an application to the hake stock in ICES zones VII C and IX A, supervised by Dr. Juan Carlos Surís Regueiro.

Her research specializes in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics, with concentrated expertise in Fisheries Management and sustainable resource allocation models. She applies quantitative economic frameworks to marine ecosystem challenges, particularly optimizing multi-fleet fishing operations within ecological constraints.

As an active member of the HI8 ERENEA research group, she contributes to interdisciplinary projects examining socio-ecological systems in natural resource governance, emphasizing policy-relevant solutions for environmental sustainability.
