MARIA ANGELES MARTINEZ CUESTA

Maria Angeles Martínez Cuesta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine and Odontology, Universitat de València, Spain. She is a member of the UFDI Digestive and Inflammatory Diseases Research Unit, where her work focuses on pharmacological mechanisms in gastrointestinal function and inflammatory processes.

Her research primarily investigates the role of nitric oxide as a neuromodulator in regulating gastric acid secretion and intestinal motility. This work lies at the intersection of pharmacology and digestive physiology, contributing to the understanding of gastrointestinal disorders. Her expertise supports both basic science and translational research in digestive and inflammatory diseases.

She earned her Doctorate from the Universitat de València with a thesis titled El oxido nitrico como neuromodulador de la secrecion acida gastrica y de la motilidad intestinal in 1993, supervised by Dr. Juan V. Esplugues Mota.
