M.B. Villamil is an Associate Professor in the Department of Crop Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also holds professorial appointments at the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. Her work addresses sustainable food production through soil health optimization, linking agronomic practices to carbon/nutrient cycling, crop productivity, and greenhouse gas mitigation.
- Ph.D. in Crop Sciences (UIUC, 2005)
- M.S. in Agricultural Education (UIUC, 2007)
- M.S. in Agronomy (Universidad Nacional del Sur, Argentina, 2000)
- B.S. in Agronomy (Universidad Nacional del Sur, Argentina, 1995)
Her research spans soil health, metagenomics, sustainable cropping systems, and biometry. Recent publications focus on rhizosphere dynamics, cover crop impacts on microbial communities, and nutrient management strategies. She employs interdisciplinary approaches integrating bioinformatics, agroecology, and statistical modeling.
Dr. Villamil’s affiliations include the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, reflecting her transnational academic engagement. Her work contributes to climate-smart agriculture and sustainable land management practices.
