M. Dores Cruz

Prof. Dr. M. Dores Cruz is a Visiting Professor at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, hosted by Associate Professor Dr. Florian Freitag. She has held academic positions in the United States (Colorado, New York, Virginia), South Africa (Pretoria), and Portugal (Coimbra, Viseu, Faro), with fellowships at the University of Cologne and Freiburg. Cruz's research integrates ethnology, archaeology, and history to analyze postcolonial memory landscapes in Portugal and Mozambique.

Her current project examines theme parks in the Global South, focusing on economic integration, dissemination of ideas, and postcolonial spatial functionalization. Key publications explore Mozambican heritage sites, Portuguese colonial narratives, and gendered labor practices in Ghana. Cruz earned her PhD in 2003 from Binghamton University (SUNY) with a dissertation on ceramic production in Ghana. She contributes to interdisciplinary theme park research through collaborations at Mainz, Germersheim, and Bonn.
