Prof. Lászlo Pólus is a Professor at the University of Pécs’ Institute of Music and Fine Arts, serving as principal cellist of the Hungarian State Opera and a member of the Somogyi String Quartet. He holds a visiting Fulbright Scholar position at the University of Virginia (UVA) for Fall 2024, collaborating with UVA’s music department and Charlottesville Symphony. His expertise spans cello performance, chamber music, and orchestral work.
Education: Graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music (Hungary) and Basel Academy of Music (Switzerland). Awards include prestigious cello competitions and the Fulbright Scholarship.
Research focuses on advanced cello techniques and ensemble performance, reflected in his roles with the Hungarian State Opera, Budapest Wiener-Szász Chamber Orchestra, and recordings on Hungaraton/BMC labels. He actively participates in the UVA-Hungarian Partnership Program since 2018, collaborating with UVA musicians in Charlottesville, Pécs, and Budapest.
Notable collaborations include performances with Ayn Balija, Daniel Sender, and John Mayhood. Future plans include continued teaching at UVA and expanding the Hungarian Partnership Program’s cultural exchanges.
