Lynne Kiesling

Lynne Kiesling is an economist with appointments as Adjunct Professor in the Master of Science in Energy and Sustainability (MSES) Program at Northwestern University and as a Research Professor in the College of Engineering, Design, and Computing at the University of Colorado-Denver. She also serves as Director of the Institute for Regulatory Law & Economics at Northwestern's Center on Law, Business, and Economics, and as President of Knowledge Problem LLC.

Research Interests: Her work focuses on the intersection of regulation, market design, and technological innovation in the electricity industry. She employs transaction cost economics to analyze grid modernization, transactive energy systems, and the role of market prices in decentralized networks. Her recent projects include studies on risk management in ERCOT and decentralized market frameworks for addressing electricity grid resilience.

Advisory Roles: Lynne contributes to national energy policy through membership on the U.S. Department of Energy's Electricity Advisory Committee. She previously served on the Smart Grid Advisory Committee for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and was a long-time member of the GridWise Architecture Council.

Projects & Grants: She is currently collaborating on a U.S. Department of Energy Connected Communities research grant to test transactive energy systems in rural communities. Her earlier work on the GridWise Olympic Peninsula Testbed Demonstration Project (2006-2007) laid foundational groundwork for transactive energy research.
