Lynne Heasley is a Professor in the School of Environment, Geography, and Sustainability at Western Michigan University. Her research focuses on environmental history, cultural geography, and Great Lakes ecosystems. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Forest and Wildlife Ecology, an M.S. in Environmental Studies, and a B.S. from Miami University.
Her work examines ecocultural relationships, water tenure, and environmental justice, with a recent emphasis on the St. Clair River and Great Lakes regions. Awards include the 2023 Next Generation Indie Book Grand Prize and 2022 Nautilus Silver Winner. She co-edited Border Flows and authored A Thousand Pieces of Paradise and The Accidental Reef.
Heasley collaborates with Indigenous communities and organizations like the Museum of Ojibwa Culture. She is involved in community initiatives such as the Climate Change Working Group and environmental reporting projects. Her photography documents natural and cultural landscapes, blending artistic practice with academic research.
