Lynne Cotter is a Lecturer and PhD candidate in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at University of Wisconsin–Madison, specializing in health technology communication and visual health messaging. Her research investigates effective communication strategies for public health challenges including vaccination hesitancy, substance use prevention, and chronic disease management.
Research focuses on:
- Visual and interactive health messaging efficacy
- mHealth applications for vulnerable populations
- Community-centered message co-design
- Vaccination communication for rural communities
Publications demonstrate innovative approaches to health communication, with emphasis on pictorial warnings, tailored visualizations, and autonomy-supportive messaging. Recent work frequently employs randomized experiments and community-based participatory research to test communication interventions across diverse populations.
Methodological expertise includes qualitative (focus groups, interviews) and quantitative approaches (Bayesian statistics, linear mixed effects regression).
