Dr. Lynn Sosa is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Epidemiology (Microbial Diseases) at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH) and an Adjunct Faculty member. She serves as the Coordinator of the TB and STD Control Programs and Deputy State Epidemiologist at the Connecticut Department of Public Health (CDPH). Her roles bridge academic research and public health practice, focusing on infectious disease surveillance, outbreak response, and policy implementation.
Dr. Sosa received her MD from Harvard Medical School and completed an internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. She served in the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) at the CDC before joining CDPH in 2007. Her expertise spans sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis control, and emerging infectious diseases.
Her research emphasizes public health emergencies, including mpox, SARS-CoV-2 variants, and drug-resistant pathogens. Key publications include studies on group B streptococcal outbreaks, Omicron household transmission, and JYNNEOS vaccine effectiveness. She collaborates with national agencies like the CDC and co-authors frequently with epidemiologists at Yale and CDPH.
Dr. Sosa leads the Connecticut Emerging Infections Program, a CDC-funded initiative for infectious disease surveillance. Her work informs public health policy, vaccination strategies, and outbreak containment measures.
