Lynn Musto, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at Trinity Western University. She coordinates the Mental Health course in the undergraduate program and teaches Healthcare Ethics in the graduate program. With 23 years of clinical experience in mental health settings, her scholarship focuses on healthcare professionals' moral agency, moral distress, and ethical practice alignment with organizational values.
Education includes a PhD in Nursing (University of British Columbia), Master of Science in Nursing (University of Victoria), and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (University of Victoria), alongside certifications in psychiatric nursing and general nursing.
Her research examines intersections between organizational structures and individual practice in mental health care, aiming to improve patient-centered, compassionate systems. Key themes include moral distress mitigation, ethical decision-making frameworks, and systemic support for healthcare providers.
Recent publications emphasize covenant in nursing ethics, moral agency in complex care environments, and interventions addressing ethical challenges. Awards include the CIHR Doctoral Research Award and UBC's Faculty of Applied Science Graduate Award.
Current roles include co-investigator on projects like 'Guidelines for Healthcare Providers’ Application of Patient-Centered Measurement Data in Practice' (2019–2021). She actively contributes to professional organizations such as the Canadian Bioethics Society and reviews nursing education programs.
