Dr. Lynn Kaack is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Public Policy at the Hertie School in Berlin. Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at ETH Zurich's Energy Politics Group (2019–2021). Her work focuses on applying machine learning and policy analysis to address climate mitigation challenges in energy systems and transportation. She chairs
Education: PhD in Engineering and Public Policy (Carnegie Mellon University), MS in Machine Learning (CMU), MS/BS in Physics (Free University of Berlin). She also worked as a visiting researcher at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (Tokyo).
Research Interests: Energy systems decarbonization, AI policy, freight transportation sustainability, urban infrastructure analysis, and machine learning for climate resilience. Her work bridges technical methods with policy design to achieve climate targets.
Publications: Key works include studies on energy forecasting (Proceedings of the National Academies of Science), urban building height prediction (PLoS ONE), and satellite-based freight monitoring (ACM SIGCAS). These highlight her interdisciplinary approach to climate solutions.
Professional Activities: Co-founder of Climate Change AI, member of the Austrian Robotics and AI Council, and affiliated with multiple international sustainability networks.
