Lynda Iroulo

Dr. Lynda Iroulo is a Research Fellow at the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), specifically within the GIGA Institute for African Affairs. She specializes in international and regional organizations, African Union dynamics, sociological institutionalism, and postcolonial theory. Her current role includes participation in the project 'Sources and Consequences of Legitimation Strategies of Regional Organizations (LegRO),' funded by the Leibniz Association.

Education: Holds a D.Phil from the Berlin Graduate School for Transnational Studies (Freie Universität Berlin), alongside MA and BA degrees in History and International Studies from Babcock University, Nigeria. She has held roles at institutions including the South African Institute of International Affairs and the Berlin Social Science Centre (WZB).

Research Interests: Focuses on institutional strategies of regional organizations, decolonizing knowledge production, and Africa's role in global governance. Recent work examines the African Union's global positioning and the impact of digital activism on civil rights movements like #EndSARS.

Grants & Projects: Active in the LegRO project analyzing regional organizations' legitimacy strategies across 30 cases. Previously coordinated the African Affairs Forum – Germany and hosted the Orders Beyond Borders podcast series.

Labs/Teams: Collaborates within the GIGA's Global Orders and Foreign Policies research programme, contributing to interdisciplinary teams exploring Africa's evolving international relations frameworks.
