Lydia de Haro Hernandez

Lydia de Haro Hernández is a Professor in the Department of French, Romanesque, Italian and Arabic Philology at the University of Murcia. She holds a Ph.D. from the same institution (2017) with a thesis on Georges de Peyrebrune’s works. Her research focuses on 19th-century French literature, particularly feminist literary criticism and the analysis of women’s writing. She is part of the French Literature research group and has published extensively on topics such as gender identity, ecocriticism, and the role of love in women’s novels.

Research Interests:
Dr. de Haro’s work centers on feminist approaches to 19th-century French literature, with a focus on Georges de Peyrebrune. Her recent studies explore ecocriticism and ecofeminist perspectives in Peyrebrune’s works, analyzing nature/city dualities and animal ethics. She also examines themes like gender roles, social stigma, and women’s autonomy in Belle Époque narratives.

Publications:
Her most recent works include analyses of Peyrebrune’s use of color symbolism, critiques of rural women’s conditions, and explorations of transmedia storytelling. Her 2020 book re-edits Peyrebrune’s Jupiter et les Bas-bleus, highlighting its feminist contributions.

Grants & Awards:
Received a Ministry of Education (Spain) grant for her 2015 study on color in Peyrebrune’s texts. Also supported by AFUE for international conference participation.

Member of the French Literature research group at the Universidad de Murcia, collaborating on projects to recover marginalized women writers’ contributions to literary history.
