Lydia Plath is an Associate Professor of US History at the University of Warwick, specializing in racism, racial violence, and interdisciplinary approaches to American history. She serves as Deputy Head of Department and Director of Teaching and Learning.
Her research examines historical constructions of race through slavery-era violence, cinematic representations of slavery, and pedagogical approaches to American studies. She develops anti-racist curricula and won the 2020 HOTCUS Inclusive Curricula Prize for her module 'America in Black and White?'.
Dr. Plath is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and facilitates Warwick's Tackling Racial Inequality program. She offers PhD supervision in US slavery studies, racial violence, and slavery representation in visual media.
