معرفی
Lydia Kavraki is a Professor at Rice University, renowned for her pioneering work in robotics and bioinformatics. She is celebrated for inventing randomized motion planning algorithms and the Probabilistic Roadmap Method, which revolutionized high-dimensional path planning in robotics and found applications in bioinformatics and biomedicine.
Her research spans robot motion planning, hybrid systems, formal methods in robotics, and computational structural biology. She co-authored the influential textbook Principles of Robot Motion and contributed to drug design and personalized cancer immunotherapy through her work on molecular conformations and protein flexibility.
Kavraki has received numerous accolades, including:
- ACM AAAI Allen Newell Award (2019)
- ACM Athena Lecturer Award (2017)
- ACM Fellows (2010)
- ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award (2000)
She also collaborated with NASA on Robonaut 2, advancing motion-planning for humanoid robots in space exploration. Her open-source Open Motion Planning Library has been adopted globally in robotics systems.
