Luzius Wildhaber was a distinguished academic and jurist, serving as Professor of Public International, Constitutional, Comparative, and Administrative Law at the University of Basel from 1977 to 1998, and earlier as Professor at the University of Fribourg. He held leadership roles, including Rector of Basel University (1992–1994) and President of the European Court of Human Rights (since 1998). He contributed significantly to international law, human rights, and constitutional reform through his scholarly work and judicial service.
