Luther Smith is a Professor of Biblical Counseling at Calvary University, where he has served since January 2017. He holds multiple leadership roles, including Dean of the College and Department Chair of Biblical Counseling, contributing to academic administration and curriculum development.
- B.A. in Psychology from Ashford University (2007)
- M.A. in Religious Studies and Marriage & Family Therapy from Southern California Seminary (2012)
- Psy.D. in Psychology from Southern California Seminary (2017)
His research and teaching focus on the intersection of psychology, theology, and philosophy, particularly in the context of biblical counseling. He emphasizes the application of theological foundations to practical counseling scenarios, as reflected in his favorite course, Theological Foundations of Biblical Counseling.
Prior to joining Calvary, Smith served as a teaching elder at Potrero Community Church (1 year) and an adjunct professor at San Diego Christian College (7 years), while also counseling at multiple organizations in San Diego for 6 years. Outside academia, he teaches Sunday school at Open Door Bible Church, participates in conferences, and maintains a blog exploring topics in psychology, philosophy, and theology.
