Lurdes Y. T. Inoue is a Professor and Chair of Biostatistics at the University of Washington's School of Public Health, holding the Gilbert S. Omenn Endowed Chair in Biostatistics. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor in Pharmacy. Her research focuses on Bayesian methods, clinical trials, decision theory, and cancer research, particularly prostate cancer. She earned her PhD in Statistics from Duke University (1999), with earlier degrees from Duke and the University of São Paulo (Brazil).
Her work combines statistical theory with real-world applications, such as modeling disease progression and evaluating screening strategies. She has advised notable students, including Rebecca Hubbard and Donatello Telesca, whose dissertations received prestigious awards. In addition to her academic leadership, Inoue is involved in curriculum development for the School of Public Health’s re-accreditation. She is a prominent figure in biostatistics, contributing to collaborations like the Cancer Intervention and Surveillance Modeling Network (CISNET).
- Research Highlights: Bayesian inference in medical screening, prostate cancer modeling, and decision theory applications.
- Professional Roles: Chair of Biostatistics, SPH Curriculum Committee member, and collaborator with institutions like Harvard and University of São Paulo.
