Lulu Healy

Lulu Healy is a Professor at the Centre for Research in Education in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (CRESTEM). Her research focuses on inclusive mathematics education, particularly addressing the needs of learners with disabilities. She investigates how mathematical practices can be made accessible through embodied experiences, material artefacts, and semiotic representations. Her work challenges ableist narratives in mathematics teaching, advocating for interdependency and joy in learning.

Education: She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education from the Institute of Education (2002) and a Bachelor of Arts in Social Psychology and Cognitive Studies (1985). Her expertise aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).

Research Interests: Dr. Healy’s work explores inclusive pedagogies, multimodal approaches to learning, and the role of sensory activities in mathematical cognition. She emphasizes designing teaching strategies that respect diverse student needs and examines how disability intersects with educational practices.

Publications: Her recent articles highlight themes such as embodied learning, teacher noticing, and the use of vignettes in professional development. These studies underscore the importance of adapting pedagogy to support neurodiverse learners and fostering inclusive classroom environments.
