Luke Dollar, Ph.D., is the Bashore Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Environment and Sustainability at Catawba College, and an Adjunct Professor of the Environment at Duke University. His work spans wildlife biology, conservation, and sustainable development.
Research focuses on carnivores such as big cats and Madagascar’s fosa (Cryptoprocta ferox), combining field studies with satellite-based habitat analysis. Over 50% of his efforts address grassroots education and sustainable employment programs for communities coexisting with wildlife in Africa. He previously directed National Geographic’s Big Cats Initiative (2009–2017).
His programs integrate ecological research with community-driven solutions, benefiting thousands of subsistence farmers and children through scholastic and economic initiatives.
