Luke A. Reynolds is an Assistant Professor in Residence in the Department of History at the University of Connecticut’s Stamford Campus. His research focuses on cultural, social, and military history of Britain and its empire during the long nineteenth century. He holds a Ph.D. from the City University of New York (2019), an M.Phil from the University of Cambridge, and degrees from Trinity College Dublin and Hunter College. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society in 2022.
Reynolds’ work examines how historical events like the Battle of Waterloo were mythologized and owned culturally. His monograph Who Owned Waterloo? (Oxford University Press, 2022) won the Society for Military History’s 2023 Distinguished Book Award and explores post-Waterloo British identity formation. He teaches courses on North American history, modern Europe, world history, and specialized topics like War and Film.
His articles investigate themes such as military fashion satire, post-war tourism, and commemorative banquets. He is preparing a book on J.H. Amherst’s Complete Battle of Waterloo and a study of 19th-century Waterloo panoramas.
