Lukas Muttenthaler is a Senior ML Research Scientist at Aignostics and a part-time Senior Researcher at TU Munich's Computer Vision Explainable Machine Learning Group. His research focuses on representation learning in computer vision, human-machine alignment, and cognitively-inspired ML. He holds a PhD from TU Berlin (summa cum laude), MSc in IT & Cognition from University of Copenhagen, and BSc in Cognitive Psychology from University of Vienna.
- Affiliations: TU Munich (part-time), Aignostics (full-time), previously at Google DeepMind, Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences
- Key Collaborations: Simon Kornblith (Anthropic), Martin Hebart (MPI), Klaus-Robert Müller (TU Berlin)
Research interests include representational alignment between humans and neural networks, computational neuroscience, and interpretable vision models. Notable contributions include the VICE framework for interpretable concept embeddings and the THINGSvision toolbox.
Recipient of Google Research Collabs grant (2022), Best Demonstration Award (EDOC 2019), and multiple top-tier conference acceptances (NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML).
