University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Viennaمعرفی
Lukas Moik is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Forest Growth within the Department of Ecosystem Management, Climate and Biodiversity at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). His research focuses on applying advanced laser scanning technologies to forest measurement and inventory problems, with particular expertise in precise wood stack and individual log measurement.
Moik's research interests center around precision measurement techniques in forestry using terrestrial laser scanning and LiDAR technologies. His work addresses critical challenges in the forestry/wood value chain, including accurate measurement of sawlog stacks on an individual log basis and quantification of forest regeneration on inventory sample plots. He has developed methodologies for analyzing tree stem forms in pure and mixed stands of beech (Fagus sylvatica) and spruce (Picea abies), contributing to more precise forest inventory practices. His research bridges advanced remote sensing technologies with practical forestry applications, enabling more accurate resource management and sustainable forestry practices across the entire wood value chain.
Moik's publication record shows a clear progression toward increasingly sophisticated applications of laser scanning in forest measurement, with consistent output from 2019 through 2025. His work has evolved from basic wood stack measurement to more complex analyses of forest regeneration and individual tree morphology. The consistent focus on precision measurement using laser technologies demonstrates his commitment to advancing the technical capabilities of forest inventory systems, with practical applications from harvesting through to wood processing.
Lukas Moik is currently working as project staff on the research project "Digitization of round wood measurements along the forestry/wood value chain using laser scanning" (December 2024 - November 2027), which aims to further advance the application of these technologies in practical forestry settings. This project is funded by Federal Ministries and led by project manager Gollob Christoph.
