Luisa Quintero is an Associate Professor of Teaching at Wayne State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Department of Romance Languages. Her expertise spans Latin American film studies, second language acquisition, and experiential learning integration in education. She holds a Ph.D. in Romance Languages from Wayne State University (2008) and dual baccalaureate degrees in Anthropology (University of Michigan, 1998) and Spanish & Literature (University of Medellín, Colombia, 1988).
Her research focuses on the intersection of film studies and cultural history, particularly analyzing how Latin American cinema represents marginalized youth. She pioneered service-learning approaches to teach Spanish as a second language through community engagement and internships. Key awards include the King Chavez Parks Future Faculty Fellowship (2005–2007) and multiple teaching assistantships at Wayne State.
Teaching responsibilities include Intermediate Spanish (SPA2010), Cultural Connections (SPA2025), and Conversation courses (SPA3200), with active course offerings through Winter 2025. Her pedagogical innovations emphasize practical language application through real-world cultural contexts.
