Luisa Piart is a postdoctoral research fellow holding a joint appointment at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology (Department of Law & Anthropology) and the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Her research focuses on economic and legal anthropology, global markets, labour governance, and maritime infrastructures. She has conducted fieldwork in Istanbul’s garment industry and currently studies seafarers and the ILO Maritime Labour Convention.
Education: She earned a binational PhD (cotutelle) in social anthropology from the University of Vienna and EHESS Paris, preceded by degrees in history/geography from Sorbonne (Paris) and migration studies from Poitiers (CNRS).
Research Areas: Europe, Central America, Turkey, and Central Asia.
