Luisa Ikner is an Assistant Professor and Environmental Microbiologist at the University of Arizona's Department of Environmental Science. She earned her Ph.D. in Soil, Water and Environmental Science from the University of Arizona in 2010 and subsequently worked as a Senior Virologist and Study Director at Antimicrobial Test Laboratories (now Microchem) in Texas before returning to academia in 2014.

At the Water & Energy Sustainable Technology (WEST) Center, Dr. Ikner specializes in hygienic intervention studies, antimicrobial efficacy testing, and water treatment technology evaluation for municipal and industrial partners. Her work focuses on sustainable solutions for pathogen inactivation and reduction through industry-academia collaborations.
She actively mentors students while overseeing rigorous scientific evaluations for US EPA data submissions, bridging practical industry needs with academic research excellence.
Dr. Ikner contributes to applied environmental research through her leadership at the WEST Center, which serves as a hub for technology validation and cross-sector partnerships.
