Luisa De Cola is a Full Professor at the Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (ISIS), University of Strasbourg, France, and an associate scientist at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. She previously held full-time roles at the University of Münster (2005–2012), University of Amsterdam (1998–2004), and Bologna (1990–1998), along with a part-time position at the University of Twente (2006–present).
Research Focus: Her work bridges supramolecular chemistry, photophysics, and nanomaterials, with key areas including electroluminescent materials for optoelectronics, metal complexes for diagnostics and molecular imaging, and biomedical applications of zeolites and mesoporous silica. Her studies on self-assembled luminescent systems and nanoscale hybrid materials have enabled advances in imaging, therapy, and antibiotic-resistant bacterial targeting.
Selected Awards:
- ERC Advanced Grant (2009)
- IUPAC Prize for Distinguished Women in Chemistry (2011)
- Gutenberg Chair Award (2012)
- International 'Grammaticakis-Neumann' Prize (1995)
Public Engagement: Dr. De Cola actively promotes science through public lectures (e.g., Accademia dei Lincei) and creative outreach, including a 2011 talk on chocolate during the Year of Chemistry.
